Research Associate Development and Practical Application Phd Philosophy of Novel Computational Methods and Software for Water Distribution Systems

Circa: £29,099

A postdoctoral research associate is required to work on the development and practical application of novel computational methods and software for water distribution systems. Optimization of water distribution systems is extremely complex and the aim of the project is to develop algorithms and associated software that are robust and fast enough for routine use in the water industry. The project is funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and is led by Dr Tiku Tanyimboh. The appointment is fixed term for a period of one year.

The candidate should have, or expect to have gained by the time of the appointment, a PhD or equivalent in an Engineering discipline. A developing publication record in peer reviewed international journals is essential. The candidate is expected to be highly motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Experience within the water industry is desirable. Proven expertise in water distribution modelling and research (including pressure-dependent and water quality; numerical analysis and evolutionary optimization methods; and computer programming including FORTRAN and C++ are essential.

The successful candidate will work both independently and collaboratively with other staff and PhD students on complementary projects, therefore good verbal and written communication skills are essential. The research involves close collaboration with Veolia Water.
